DoorTrak.EXE (C)1993 by Todd Carlton -- Some Place Else BBS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= LEGAL STUFF =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
100% of the code involved with the running of this program is my own...
I, the author, require a one-time life-long liscense to be purchased for $10
if you want to run this program legally. Because I'm a real sweetheart of a
guy (just ask my wife and daughter!) I'm granting you a one time, 30 day
license to try out this program to see if you like it. If you don't like it,
OR if you don't pay for it after 30 days, I must ask that you no longer use
it or any files or statistics it generates, compiles, or tabulates.
I am always open to suggestions for improvement, and LOVE hearing bug
reports but please remember, I'm a real person with an 8 to 5 job and only
write these doors and utilities as a hobby. I try to get all bugs fixed
before I release a program, but sometimes a critter or two gets through.
Don't get mad, just let me know and I'll try to clean it up.
My wife and I have been married for going on 3 years (2/10/90...if anybody
wants to send us an avviversary gift) and are currently in the "renter"
stage of life... (i.e. our address changes every couple of years). The best
way to locate us is to get get on a FidoNet Member BBS and look through the
nodelist for a SYSOP name of THE CARLTONS. That way no matter where in the
U.S. we end up, you can ALWAYS locate us and our support BBS... SOME PLACE
ELSE BBS (Which has been up since July 1986 in a variety of locations around
the United States.)
PLEASE NOTE: I now add the disclaimer that I *GUARENTEE* that is program is
capable and able and even supposed to alter any files named DOORTRAK.DAT,
DT.CFG, MAKETO.DAT, CONTROL.DAT and DOORTRAK.DAT. I know of no BBSes or other
doors/utilities that use these file names, but you may to to double check
your system to make sure no important BBS files are altered. THIS PROGRAM DOES
NOT ALTER YOUR USERFILE and you are taking your BBSs life 100% into your own
hands when trying this program at any time, under any circumstance! I run it
on my system after every call and my guests enjoy it.
AT THE MOMENT IT LEAVES MY HANDS FOR RELEASE it is 100% VIRUS FREE! I SCAN IT
IMMEDIATELY BEFORE PACKING IT UP TO DISTRIBUTE. I suggest you scan the enclosed
files for viruses *BEFORE* you run this door for the first time because it's
been around hundreds (maybe) of BBSs that I cannot vouch for. Viruses are a
fact. SCAN SCAN SCAN!
If you find a copy of this door with a virus on it MAIL IT TO ME on a disk and
I'll mail you back (FREE) the latest version VIRUS FREE. The CATCH is you gotta
give me the name and number of the BBS you got it from, so I can get THEM
cleaned up and stop the maddness.
If you run DoorTrak for more than 30 days, you owe me $10. If you have a
problem with it DoorTrak, don't run it. If you run it and have any questions,
give me a call!

==========================
UPGRADING TO THIS VERSION:
==========================
The only major change from V4.x to V5.0a is the structure allowing DoorTrak
to read BBS Drop files and display in ANSI when appropriate! First, at
the DOS prompt, TYPE the file DT.CFG. If you're registered, write down the
registration number from line #7. Then run DoorTrak in it's configuration
mode: DT /C ... Select option one for MAIN CONFIGURATION. Answer the
prompts and it'll rewrite a corrected DT.CFG for you. That's it from 4.x
to 5.0a! If you're upgrading from an older version, keep reading!
The file structure of DoorTrak.DAT has been altered between versions 3.xx
and V4.0a. This allows the report mode to run 50-75% *FASTER* than it did
prior to V4.0a. Attempting to run with files structured with 3.xx or below
will cause your BBS to lock up! Control files from V4.0a to higher versions
have also changed! To convert your files <rather than retype your database>,
run DoorTrak in local mode:
DT LOCAL
and select the Update option. **If this is the first time you're setting up
DoorTrak, no conversion is needed. V4.0b and above will create the database
files with the new structure.
This program works best when run in the BBS directory, simply because when
your BBS exits to run a door, THAT is where the system is already looking
for the next command! (Unless you're running your BBS from within a Batch
file (*.bat), in which case it make MY job even easier!)
==============
DOORTRAK SETUP
==============
DT /C Configures DoorTrack for your BBS and writes DT.CFG for you. Also allows
you to enter your registration code, once you've registered.
-------------------------------
Option One -- Write Config File
-------------------------------
This file is written based on the answers you give to the Configuration
questions. NOTE: Upper/Lower case letters do not effect this file. You
may use either. DoorTrak Knows It's Alphabet.
1) SYSOP NAME - This Name is used to generate the configuration code and
should be your real name. Since DoorTrak solicits donations for popular
doors and checks should be made out to your real name, there should be
no reason to have to register using a handle.
2) BBS NAME - This Name too is used to generate your registartion code.
3) Path To Write Display Files - This should be your BBSs Text File Path.
You will need to enter it using the "DRIVE:\PATH\SUBPATH" format.
NOTE: You do not need to end the path statement with a "\", however
if you do, it won't effect DoorTraks ability to run. DoorTrak Knows
how to read path commands either way.
4) Name Of ANSI File To Generate - This is the ANSI "Top 15 Door" report. It
has NO default extension, so if you want to name it TOP15, it will write
a file called TOP15. If your BBS requires an extension on the file, you
must enter the extension with the name, such as TOP15.ANS or TOP15.CLR
5) Name of ASCII File to Generate - This is the ASCII counterpart to the
Top 15 door report. All the same rules apply.
6) Path To DOORTRAK.DAT - Many SYSOPs don't like junking up their BBS directory
with a bunch of utility files. DT.EXE, DT.CFG, and MAILTO.DAT must be in
the same directory together, but the actual door database DOORTRAK.DAT may
me moved to another directory, or even another drive! Naming this dirve
and path follows the same rules as #3.
7) Type of BBS Drop File - DoorTrak will now display door status in ANSI or
ASCII, depending on the caller's settings on your BBS. (You must use the
@ character in your batch files to activate status screens). There are
many door formats supported...
8) BBS Path To Dropfile - This simply is the path where the dropfile selected
in item #7 physically sits on your hard drive.
9) Active COM Port - The next revision of DoorTrak will read the Com Port
out of the BBS Drop file, (Great for multi-node BBSes), but for now
it must still be hard coded into your .CFG file. This is a number from
1 to 9. No locked port addressing, base address or IRQ information is
needed. DoorTrak will work with any functional com port, standard or
non-standard.
10)Registration Code - After I receive $10, I will send back to you a 4-12
character code. Type in in to answer this question when you get it an it
will unlock the "MAILTO" feature and indicate on the reports that you have
registered DOORTRAK. Until you receive this code, enter five zeros "00000"
for the registration number.
NOTE: DT.CFG is a standard, no tricks or traps ASCII file editable with any
ASCII editor or word processor. If any information changes, you may find it
faster/easier to just go in and edit the file instead of re-running the
configuration mode. I DO suggest you run it the first time, just to make sure
you get all the right answers in the right fields.
--------------------------------
Option Two - Creating MAILTO.DAT
--------------------------------
Once a Valid Registration Code has been ebtered into DT.CFG, this option will
become available in the DT /C configuration mode. It replaces the last line
of the report (Which formerly indicated that DoorTrak was unregistered) with
an address line telling callers where they may send checks (to YOU) to help
register their favorite doors. NOTE: MAILTO.DAT saves answers EXACTLY as you
enter them, so Caps and lower case <*> DO <*> make a difference.
That's it for setup. Please print the registration file, get a $10 money
order and send it to me. I'll willing to discuss trading with DOOR AUTHORS
registration-for-registration on a case by case basis.
Even though I have disabled the MAILTO feature on unregistered DoorTraks,
this program is not crippled in any way. It will not pause, throw-up, crash,
or call you nasty names if you don't register it right away. All I ask is
that after 30 days, you either take it down or register it. I despise
crippleware, and barely tolerate Pauseware. I do also ask that if you don't
like one of my programs, let me know! If I get enough letters, I'll quit
wasting my time writing that type of door.
For Instructions on the actual running/use of DoorTrak, read DT.DOC.
(Don't forget to scan DoorTrak for viruses BEFORE trying it out! It is not
immune and may have caught something from one of the many BBSs it's been on.)
